Meet Doug Campbell

30+ Years in Markets

20 Years Full-Time Trader

Creator of the 3/8 Trap

Doug Campbell has been involved in the financial markets for more than three decades.

He began trading in his mid-twenties, starting with long stock positions. Over time his experience expanded to include short selling after the dot-com crash, options trading, and eventually intraday futures once his trading approach had been fully tested.

Doug has now traded full-time for nearly twenty years.

Like most traders, his early years in the market were not easy.

The Early Years

Doug spent nearly seven to eight years struggling to find consistency.

During that time he made many of the same mistakes traders still make today — chasing price, trying to predict market direction, and relying on charts filled with indicators that often created more confusion than clarity.

At one point he nearly blew up his trading account.

Doug credits a mentor during those early years for helping point him toward a more disciplined approach. He also spent countless evenings and weekends studying charts, reading books, and reviewing his own trades to better understand what he was doing wrong.

Eventually he realized that trying to predict the market was doing far more harm than good.

The 3/8 Trap

Through years of studying price behavior, Doug began noticing that certain price patterns repeat themselves within market trends.

From those observations he developed what he calls the 3/8 Trap, the strategy he trades and teaches today.

The 3/8 Trap focuses on recognizing a specific set of repeatable price patterns that appear within established trends. Rather than trying to predict where the market will go, the approach focuses on following price once the structure of the market becomes clear.

The goal is not to forecast the market.

The goal is to follow it.

Discipline and Responsibility

Doug’s approach to trading was shaped in part by his earlier career as an Army officer in the Chemical Corps, where discipline, preparation, and accountability were part of daily life.

Those lessons continue to influence how he approaches both trading and teaching.

Doug believes integrity matters. The priorities he was taught early in life — God, family, and country — remain important to him today.

In trading, that perspective leads to a simple idea: the trader is responsible for every decision.

Markets, news events, and outside opinions do not cause losses. Every trade is a choice made by the trader.

Doug often describes trading as running a business where the trader acts as the CEO of their own results.

Why Right Way Options Exists

Right Way Options grew out of Doug’s desire to help other traders avoid some of the mistakes he made early in his career.

After struggling for many years himself, he saw how common those challenges were.

Before entering his trading room each day, Doug asks himself a simple question:

“What can I do today to help someone improve their trading?”

Once trading is approached with discipline and structure, the process itself becomes fairly straightforward — and sometimes even a little boring.

Helping other traders reach that point is what motivated him to build Right Way Options.

Beyond the Markets

Doug is a husband and father of two and has been married for more than forty years.

Before trading full-time, he spent many years working as a contractor building homes — a profession that also requires patience, planning, and attention to detail.

Those same qualities carry through to his work in the markets today.
